How to Create a Bootable CD

This tutorial quickly explains how to turn a CD into a bootable disk. This is particularly useful for machines which do not have a floppy disk drive.

What is Required

  • A CD burner and a blank CD.
  • Win98SE_bootdisk.iso  [Download - Must have accompianing OS. For XP/Vista, you can boot off the installer CD, or use this .iso]
  • ImgBurn  [Download - Freeware]

How it's Done

  • Insert the blank CD into the PC.
  • Download the 'Win98SE_bootdisk.iso' image and ImgBurn. Open ImgBurn, select 'Write image file to disk', and then navigate to 'Win98SE_bootdisk.iso' where it says 'Please select a file...'. Click the large CD button to start the burning process.

And that's it! Just make sure your BIOS is set to boot off the CD-ROM device.
